When you add Times Tales to your homeschooling schedule, math time becomes story time, and that translates into fun! While teaching her own children, author Jennie vonEggers noticed that the higher multiplication facts seemed to be more difficult to process and remember. To overcome this problem, Jennie waxed creative and turned the upper times tables into memorable mini-stories.
These ultra-brief anecdotes work with accompanying visuals to trigger the child’s memory when a set of facts is presented. Both auditory and visual, the use of a reinforcement game also makes this resource appealing to kinesthetic learners.
My fourth grader (not known for enthusiasm in school) punctuated our Times Tales sessions with statements like, “This is fun!” and enjoys using the mini-stories to nudge his memory when certain multiplication facts slip his mind.
The program has just undergone a major redesign and consists of a flipchart on glossy coverstock with sturdy, plasticoil binding, aA0bound Instruction Manual on gloss coverstock throughout, coverstock flashcards and game pieces, and assorted tests and reinforcements.
Also contained in this fun resource are flashcards and written tests. All items are under copyright except the tests, which you can reproduce for extra practice or subsequent students.
For all us time-challenged parents, teacher prep time for this great product is minimal. After an initial read-through, Times Tales is as easy to utilize in your school day as a pack of flashcards, and at $13.95, a very affordable way to turn math tears into triumphant fun!
