A Taste of Spring
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.Psalm 34: 8
January 6th should be a time of cold temperatures and chilly winds in the state of Pennsylvania. There should be the hope of snow and sledding for children, now that the holidays are over. Yet, here I sit in the corner of my bedroom on a Saturday morning, enjoying the breeze from an open window, and listening to the chirping of birds in the leaf-barren trees.
It is a rare moment when I am alone with my thoughts, with an opportunity to enjoy The Lord's Presence, and to ponder His Blessings. I view this unusual break in weather as a gift from God.
To say I lead a busy life is an understatement. Having nine children definitely opens doors to increased activity. But in all honesty, I really do enjoy it! It is a fruit of my labor. To be involved in the lives that are a part of me, who are an extension, and visible evidence, of the love that my husband and I share, is truly a blessing!
In busy times I need to remember that, when I am pulled in many directions, it is only for a season- and a quickly passing one. Just as there are the natural seasons of spring, summer, winter, and fall, so there are the life seasons of infant, toddler, child, and teen. Each is ordered by God to be enjoyed for its own beauty and value.
I am thankful for God's gift of a spring day in winter, for this rare, quiet time to ponder it, and for a non-scheduled Saturday to relish it. I am grateful for my Lord's committed love in reminding me of His precious gifts, and for affording me opportunity to maintain perspective of His purpose.
To be busy in the Lord's Work is good, but it needs fueling in the frequent quiet of His Presence. To enjoy a spring day in winter is indeed a gift from God!
PRAYER: Thank you, Father, for this reminder of Your Care, and for an opportunity to get fueled by Your Grace. The knowledge and feeling of Your Presence indeed keeps me going!
