Learn and Lean
"The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower."Psalm 18:2
Katie lay on the soft, green grass, belly down, pointing her camera up at Nathan, while he slowly leaned back, arms folded across his chest. She was shouting instructions for him to adjust his angle this way and that, and then to hold still while she snapped a picture.
Not knowing their purpose, I became perplexed. If they were trying to take a picture of the lighthouse, why didn't they look straight on into the camera? A smiling momentum in front of this rock-grounded structure would definitely be more appealing.
"Would you like me to snap a shot of both of you?" I offered.
"No, thanks, Mom," Katie replied. "We're creating an illusion."
"Oh?" I questioned.
"Yep, and then Nathan will do it for me," she said.
I continued watching as the roles were reversed. Nathan then lay in the grass, camera at his eye, looking up at "leaning Katie."
"Wanna see what we've done?" Katie offered when they were finished.
"Sure, if I don't have to get down on the ground," I answered.
"Look through the lens and line up Nathan's back with the side of the lighthouse. Doesn't it look as though he is leaning against it?"
"Whoa," I said, "What a neat picture!" I was truly amazed at their creativity.
What a great illustration of the Christian life! It reminded me of God's invisible Hand of support in His children's lives. As we learn to lean on Him, He will gently guide and direct us. He is OUR lighthouse on Whom we can lean, and in Whom we can seek refuge.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for sending Your Son, Jesus, to be the Light of the world, and for delivering me from the darkness of my sins. Thank you for the mercy You show to me, in drawing me to the Light. I pray that I can used of You, to point others to the safety of Your Tower of protection and salvation.
