Have you ever wondered why one curriculum works so well with one child while it leaves another child behind? Why is it that you and your son seem to think alike and “click” when working on a project, but the same interaction with your daughter causes sparks to fly? What causes us to respond differently to various people and situations? The StudentKeys program can help answer these questions and more.

Through the use of six short workbooks, students will identify their personality, communication, learning, and thinking styles. They will work through a career choice workbook to assist them in identifying the occupations that are most suited to their behavioral and personality style patterns, and they will determine the values that are most important in their personal decision making. Finally, students will learn how to develop a plan for setting and achieving short and long-term goals. Parents can also purchase a Spiritual Gifts Inventory workbook to help identify one’s spiritual gifts and discover how those gifts can be used in ministry, as well as a Biblical Personality workbook that gives examples of various personality styles in the Bible.

Our family found the StudentKeys program to be both fun and enlightening. My children had such a great time with the first assessment that they could not wait to work through each of the subsequent books. We enjoyed answering each of the surveys and then sharing the results.  It helped us to identify our own strengths and weaknesses while gaining a better perspective of ourselves and others.  The information discovered can then be applied practically in one’s personal, social, academic and professional life. Students and parents learn tips to enhance communication, improve study skills, maximize on social strengths and improve areas of weakness.

The bulk of the program is geared for ages 13 and above. However, there is also a workbook targeted for the 7 to 12-year-old crowd. I recommend that parents work through the material along with their children. Although each workbook can be purchased separately, it is more economical to purchase the complete student binder for approximately $30.00. Leader’s guides, if desired, can be purchased separately.

StudentKeys is an enrichment tool that in my opinion is well worth the investment. Although no personal assessment tool is flawless, StudentKeys has done an admirable job in providing tools that may prove necessary for future success. Our entire family plans on working through each of the workbooks again just for fun!
