The Standard of Purity

The Standard of Purity is a “Bible-Based Study for Young Adults.” The author recommends this study for upper-junior high through adults. It uses the King James Version of the Bible and it is recommended that you use the same as you work through this study.

There are 40 daily lessons in this study taking the student step by step through a Biblical study of “purity”—what it means, what the Bible says about it, and how to apply these things to our lives. Scripture is used extensively to support the topics that are discussed throughout the study. The author takes a very conservative view concerning issues like boyfriend/girlfriend relationships and the use of makeup.  She does state that each family has its own standards and encourages students to discuss these matters with their parents. Whether your own views totally agree with the author or not, I feel this study would be very beneficial for most students within this age group.

What I really like about this study is the way the author constantly sends the student to the Bible, to find for themselves what God has to say about these things. Rather than just telling the student “this is the way it is,” the author gives Scripture supporting each point and sends the student to their Bible to find the answers for themselves. There is space within the consumable text to copy many of the Scriptures that are referenced, along with space to write in their answers as they discover Biblical truths. It seems to me that this study is geared mostly to girls, but the author makes a point of saying it is for boys as well.

Overall I believe this is a very worthwhile study for any Christian high school student (or older junior high student) to work through, preferably along with their parents. Although I do not agree totally with the author’s views on every point, I do see the value of considering them in light of Scripture, and I am encouraging my own older students to work through this study themselves.
